Discipline – What?

Every kid needs boundaries.  To keep a child to the boundaries positive discipline is needed. Discipline is training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or character. What are the principles of discipline?

The principles of positive discipline can be found in Hebrews 12:

  • Discipline is essential – Hebrews 12:5
  • Discipline is positive and meant to encourage – Hebrews 12:5
  • Discipline is an expression of love and acceptance – Hebrews 12:6
  • Discipline is a natural part of a healthy parent – child relationship – Hebrews 12:7
  • Discipline build a sense of security in the child – Hebrews 12:8
  • Discipline instills respect in the child – Hebrews 12:9
  • Discipline develops godly characteristics – Hebrews 12:10
  • Discipline might be experienced as being painful – Hebrews 12:11
  • Discipline produces right living and peace – Hebrews 12:11
  • Discipline should be consistent – Hebrews 12:11
  • Discipline requires strength to be accepted – Hebrews 12:12
  • Discipline, when willingly accepted and acted upon, brings healing – Hebrews 12:13

“Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but discipline will drive it far from him.” (Proverbs 22:15)
