Misconceptions about Life Purpose

It is easy to defeat even the inkling of moving towards your Life Purpose with arguments and misconceptions that will keep you from reaching your Life Purpose.

Some of the misconceptions about Life Purpose are:

  • The Past: Mistakes of your past, like a sexually promiscuous life, have destroyed your chance for a meaningful life. As a Christian, God forgave you for all of your sins when you ask Him to. God erased your past, and He sees you as righteous. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • Incidents: You might say: “The purpose for my life is gone, and I now have no sense of fulfillment.” Like a friend whose wife died, after which he was lost. A Christian is complete in Christ and is being conformed to the character of Christ. “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ.” (Colossians 2:9–10)
  • Changes: The purpose for your life has changed. Like a mother whose children are grown and gone. When God brings a major change into your life, He also provides you with a new purpose. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18–19)
  • Disability: Some people are emotionally or physically disabled and feel they are unable to be useful and productive. These people ask: “What purpose could I possibly have?” God has a plan and a purpose for every life He has created … perhaps making you into a faithful prayer warrior or like Nick Vujicic, who has no limbs, but who uses his disability to witness about the purpose of life with God. “ ‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ ” (Jeremiah 29:11)
